PUKEKO: The Pukeko is one of New Zealand’s most iconic birds – stunning colours make this shy bird an aesthetic delight. The Pukeko is a native of New Zealand, approx 51cm high when fully grown and is found in swamp areas, coastal estuary regions, river banks and open wetlands. The Pukeko is mainly vegetarian but also eats grass grubs, snails, and insects. It is common sight throughout New Zealand and is loved worldwide for it’s beautiful colours.
TOI TOI BUSHES: The New Zealand Toi Toi is a tall and stately native grass which produces flower stalks that reach three metres high in the spring. Small birds and especially the Tui enjoy eating the tiny seeds. The Toi Toi looks very beautiful swaying gracefully in the breezes at the coastal, estuary and river bank zones throughout northern New Zealand.
